The Christmas Tree Ship is based on the true story about Herman Schuenemann, who is also know as "Captain Santa". Captain Santa and his crew would sail from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Chicago. Their cargo was freshly cut Christmas Trees. On November 1912 the Christmas Tree ship and her crew meet their fate on Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
